A most hearty welcome to you! The remarkable Ben Franklin will kick off the 31st season of An Evening in the Colonial Kitchen on Monday, Jan. 4. Called a “harmonious human multitude” by his biographer Carl Van Doren, Franklin was the ultimate public servant whose influence still touches our everyday life. He is joined by fellow signer John Hancock for a fascinating evening of “histo-tainment.” Not only are you invited to converse on the “issues of the day” with these talented actor/historians from The American Historical Theatre of Philadelphia, prepare to immerse yourself in the colonial-era life of our region. Watch food historians prepare a four-course, 18th century dinner over an open hearth and learn secrets (that you would never learn on the Food Network) of cooking with a “clock-work jack” or a “tin kitchen” or a “spider.” Choose from some odd sounding but delicious “Accompanied Beginnings” or “Most Hearty Main Courses” from the keepsake menu (which means you can take it home along with a recipe sheet) like Frosted Fruit Shrub or Garden Stuff & Sallets or Plantation Jambalaya or…you get what I mean. Check out the full menu and list of characters here for the thirteen Monday nights through March 29. Helpful tips: Kids really love these evenings, definitely bring some! Also, make reservations as soon as you can, some evenings fill up very quickly. Call the helpful Peddler’s Village Hospitaliticians at 215-794-4000.
